The Tsirogianni square is situated in the left side of the street Pavlou Mela as it goes down towards the sea, on west from the White Tower in Thessaloniki. It is a small square with a small park, with trees among them and an age-long plane tree. In this square is the statue of Pavlos Melas and the monument of Ioannis Papafis, major historical figures of the city.
Tsirogiannis Square - Virtual Tour
On the left side of the square are many cafés and restaurants, which are always crowded. The shops of this area are a beloved destination for all Thessaloniceans and visitors of the city. It is very common for one to see people of the theatre, as the square is very close to the Theatre of the Company of Macedonian Studies, the Royal Theatre and the open Garden Theatre. So, before or after the rehearsal or the representation, the area is submerged as much by artists as by “theatre lovers”.
