Thesssaloniki History Centre

The building of the Centre of Thessaloniki History is located in the heart of the city, at Hippodromiou Square. It is also known as Billi Mansion, since it was donated to the city by Anastasios and Ioulia Billi. The Centre of Thessaloniki History was founded in 1983 and it was under the supervision of the Library Administration. It was moved to the Billi Mansion in 1995. The purpose of the foundation is the collection, the classification and the maintenance of all sources concerned with and referring to the history and the cultural identity of Thessaloniki.

The Centre includes a library on the 2nd floor which accommodates the historical municipal archives of the city and it is open to public. Among the exhibits are private archives, photography and map collections and a collection of postcards depicting Thessaloniki in the beginning of the 20th century. The visitors can also attend lectures, conventions, soirees and exhibitions that regularly take place there. The Centre is also responsible for historical publications concerning Thessaloniki, as well as publications of studies and treatises during conventions.
